Often gets called progressive rock, which seems the best fit. Not quite folk rock like Fairport Convention, not quite pop like Carpenters and also a lot more orchestrated than Moody Blues or Barclay James Harvest. Almost like Enid with vocals.

Ashes Are Burning. This particular performance, like so many others of this band, has sadly never made it to CD/DVD. That brings me to an interesting question: how many here think this is probably her best performance of this song at least out of the ones that a lot of fans would have heard? I do think she’s more relaxed and confident here than in the Carnegie Hall or Albert Hall performances and nails the trill at the end brilliantly, even better than in the studio cut.

Renaissance did a good show here in Toronto at Convocation Hall some time in the 1980s. Con Hall is a good venue, whether it’s for Renaissance, Italy’s Goblin, Michael Moore, or Zimbabwe’s hitmaker, Robert “Democracy is not for Africans” Mugabe!
